What is BracketTap?

A quick way to decide anything by putting choices head-to-head in a bracket. Tap the one you like more in each matchup until a single champion is left. It works for baby names, dinner plans, movie night, game picks and everything in between.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Accepted Answer

It's free, and nobody needs an account: not you, not your friends, not your viewers. There's nothing to install. It runs in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers.

How do I play with friends?

Build your bracket and tap Play with friends. Everyone scans the QR code (or enters the 6-character room code at brackettap.com/join) and votes from their own phone. Votes stay hidden until each matchup is revealed, and the majority winner advances.

Can friends play on their own time instead?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Tap Share as a link and send it. Friends play your bracket whenever they like, then tap Send your picks back. Open their reply links to see each person's bracket and a tally of everyone's champions. The whole bracket lives inside the link, so nothing is saved on BracketTap.

How many choices can a bracket have?

Anywhere from 2 to 64. If the number isn't a power of two, some choices get a bye in the first round. Byes go to the top of your list, so shuffle if you want them picked at random.

What are double and triple elimination?

Accepted Answer

In double elimination every choice gets two lives, so one loss doesn't knock it out. Triple elimination (8 or more choices) gives three lives. Choices with the same number of losses face each other until only one has lives left. It takes about two or three times as many matchups as single elimination.

What happens if a vote is tied?

The host decides: run a sudden-death revote, or let a random tiebreak pick the winner with a 50/50 spin of the wheel.

Can I set a voting timer?

Yes. The host can give every matchup 25 seconds to 2 minutes. When time runs out, voting closes and the result is revealed automatically.

How does the spinner wheel pick a winner?

Accepted Answer

In a room with the spinner wheel on, every vote adds weight: 1 vote against 4 makes a 20% / 80% wheel. Where it stops is decided on BracketTap's server with a cryptographically secure random number generator (the same kind used for security keys), so the result can't be predicted or changed from a phone, and every screen shows the same spin. Random tiebreaks and shuffles use it too.

Can I use BracketTap on a stream?

Is my bracket private?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Brackets you create are private and never published. Solo brackets stay in your browser. Group rooms are deleted automatically about 72 hours after the last activity, or sooner if the host ends them. Players are never asked for a name, email or phone number.

Accepted Answer

Public brackets created and curated by the BracketTap team. Play them solo or start a private room with friends. After you finish one on your own, you'll see how your champion compares with everyone else's, counted anonymously.
